Ride for Ronnie

Ride For Ronnie is in its third year as the charity Motorcycle Rally and concert aims to beat their $50,000 record of money raised to benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund on May 7th. As the Ride For Ronnie gets closer, more and more events are revealed for the day, and the latest is an All-Star Jam led by Guns N’ Roses’ Steven Adler. Los Encinos Park marks the spot for an afternoon after-ride concert featuring the drummer alongside Mike Devin (Whitesnake), Lita Ford, Robert Sarzo (Hurricane), Alex Grossi (Quiet Riot), Patrick Stone (Budderside) and Jeff Pilson (Foreigner and former Dio bassist), performing as “Steven Adler and Friends”. This is all in addition to the many bands that will play throughout the day, which include Lynch Mob, Eddie Money, Rough Cutt, Dio Disciples, The Loveless, Sonia Harley, and No Small Children. Rough Cutt will include a performance of “Stars”, the iconic Hear ‘N Aid anthem from 1986, in their set. Known as “Heavy Metal’s answer to ‘We Are The World'”, the track raised $2 million at the time, and plans are in the works for a re-issue to benefit the Dio Cancer Fund.

Eddie Trunk will host the event, and 95.5 KLOS is also on board to sponsor and provide coverage of the ride. Actors and musicians alike will form the celebrity guests participating in the ride, including Sons of Anarchy‘s Emilio Rivera, Sean McNabb (also joining Lynch Mob on stage), Rusty Coones and Star Fields, actor Chris Bruno (The Dead Zone) and musicians Lita Ford, Gilby Clarke, Taime Downe and Xavier Muriel along with KLOS Radio “Horns Up” show personality Stew Herrera. Harley-Davidson of Glendale is the starting line for all riders, celebrity and civilians alike. During an interview with Jose Mangin on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal this week, Wendy Dio mentioned she’d be donning some of her pink biker attire to hop on the back of the former Dio road manager’s motorcycle in order to participate in the ride.

New Jersey’s very own legendary thrashers Overkill have just announced a lineup change. Jason “Sticks” Bittner, best known for his work with Shadows Fall and Flotsam and Jetsam, will be taking his place behind the kit and into the history books of Overkill while he joins the band as their new drummer. On the member switch, frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth says, “We wholeheartedly would like to thank Eddy “The Mexicutioner” Garcia for holding down the ship and keeping the momentum up for the band over this past year plus. Eddy has and always will be part of the Overkill machine. Jason is a long time friend of the band and his abilities have always spoke for themselves. Let the touring continue…onward-upward!”

Jason has expressed his excitement about joining the band: “When my phone rang about 2 months ago and Blitz said ‘Hey, me and DD are wondering if you would be interested in joining?’ It really didn’t take much for me to write back a one word answer………ABSOLUTELY!  I am extremely excited to be a part, once again, of thrash metal history, and I can not wait to get out on the road and wreck stages across the world with the ‘Mean Green Killing Machine!'”

It’s true that Overkill has no shortage of tour dates in store, with summer European dates and the Headbangers Ball Tour across Europe throughout the fall. Visit the band’s website for tickets and all the details: http://wreckingcrew.com/Ironbound/.

Unleash The Archers Unveil “The Matriarch” Music Video

Unleash the Archers

Unleash The Archers have “unleashed” a brand-new single, plus a video to go with it, this week. “The Matriarch” is the title of the track off the band’s tenth anniversary album Apex that’s set to be released via Napalm Records on June 2nd.

Frontwoman Brittney Slayes has released a statement telling fans all about the new song: “This track is chapter three in the story, and in it we are introduced to our antagonist “The Matriarch” in all her malevolent glory.  We call this one our “quick banger” because it’s fast, catchy, and fun, and hopefully it won’t take long to learn the words!  It is sung from an omniscient point of view, drawing the listener in with tales of The Matriarch’s depravity.  The best part is the bridge, because the song is so dark, and then it launches into this flowing wraithlike guitar melody that is so memorable, I sing along to it every time and I think the fans will too!  Absolutely cannot wait to play this one live  ;)”

Bravewords has the exclusive premiere of this new music video, which can be streamed through their site here. “The Matriarch” is not the first single to be revealed off the upcoming Apex – “Cleanse The Bloodlines” debuted recently, and Invisible Oranges had the exclusive premiere for that track about a month ago. Pre-orders for Apex are also available here: http://www.napalmrecordsamerica.com/store/unleashthearchers.

Apex Track Listing:
1. Awakening
2. Shadow Guide
3. The Matriarch
4. Cleanse The Bloodlines
5. The Coward’s Way

Enslaved just celebrated their 25th Anniversary last year right after hitting on the lucky number 13 with their critically acclaimed studio album In Times about two years back. That makes it about time to shoot for an even luckier number 14. The Norwegian Progressive Metal band has got plenty in the works but it’s under the radar for the time being – the most we know so far is they’ll be recording in Duper & Solslottet Studios in Bergen all through the month of April before it’s handed over to Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios for mixing and mastering, then at last released on Nuclear Blast. Here’s some of what founding member Ivar Bjørnson has to say about the yet-untitled upcoming record: “…I have never worked this hard to put together music for an album before, and that intensity continues into the studio where everybody is giving their everything, every hour of every day. We are a tighter unit than ever before, which is obvious sonically”.

Enslaved also has a joint release between Norse Music and Burning World Records of their first ever live album, Roadburn Live, that came out on April 22nd – record store day – in every format including limited edition colored vinyl.
