David Ellefson To Open Brick and Mortar Store for Ellefson Coffee Co.
For nearly a year, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has been blending brews in the name of his boutique coffee brand, Ellefson Coffee Company. The coffee comes in several different blends featuring tasteful thrashy titles that also give a nod to Megadeth songs, including “Roast In Peace”, “Kenya Thrash”, and “She-Wolf”. Now, the business that has so far been online only has found a home, which just happens to be in David Ellefson’s own hometown – Jackson, Minnesota.
Ellefson Coffee Co. will open its doors in the form of a brick and mortar shop that not only serves the bassist’s blends, but serves as a retail outlet for memorabilia and merch from Ellefson’s EMP Label Group. A “Museum of Deth” also awaits those who pay the shop a visit, featuring permanent displays of artifacts and memorabilia from Ellefson’s personal collection, among those from other artists. The store is a result of a partnership between Ellefson and ECC/EMP partner Thom Hazaert with a Jackson coffee shop owner, Susan Reiter of Coffee Choices. ECC’s Urban Legend Blend came about from this partnership, and Thom Hazaert gives some insight as to how it all expanded to the brick and mortar: “One day Susan and I had a conversation about the idea of sort of re-branding Coffee Choices into something more aligned with the ECC brand, and us coming in as partners. I pitched the idea to David, we had already discussed the idea of opening a brick and mortar outlet maybe in Phoenix, and we all loved the idea, being David’s hometown, and Susan’s amazing history in Jackson, and her experience running Coffee Choices.”
Jackson harbors many Megadeth connections, especially to Ellefson, who adds, “I’ve been blessed to travel the world year after year as a musician but my roots have always stayed in Jackson, MN. So, it’s a true honor for our coffee brand to have a retail shop on the main street USA I grew up on, and to serve the very community I was born and raised in. Aside from some great coffee and a fun Rock N’ Roll atmosphere, our store is a go-to destination for coffee that also tells my story of heavy metal and global music history. I look forward to seeing you there!”
The first official day of business for Ellefson Coffee Co. will be Monday, January 10th, with a grand opening set for the Spring. The brick-and-mortar address for Ellefson Coffee Co. is 404 Second St, Jackson, MN, 56143, and if you just can’t wait until next week’s opening to get your hands on some of this coffee, you can always head to http://ellefsoncoffeeco.com/ or http://empmerch.com/ to order online.
